CHARLOTTE HARRISON

ABOUT THE ARTIST

I studied Fashion and Textiles at the University of the Arts. Since then I have worked as a Textile Print designer in the fashion industry as well as teaching fashion and textiles in various settings.

Because of my textiles background my artwork tends to have recurring motifs and a feel of flow and balance. I use vibrant and harmonious colour palettes to give my art and patterns a sense of energy. My artwork is often inspired by nature, themes of loss, renewal, movement and hope.

My approach is playful and experimental, I predominantly use collage to experiment with shapes colour and compositions. I use this as a way to design patterns as well as bigger artworks that can be translated to murals.

I am passionate about working on community arts projects. In the last couple of years alongside my print design work I have collaborated with adult services users and staff on a mental health ward at St Anns hospital In Haringey, to design and paint multiple murals for the ward. I designed a mural for the Turnpike Lane Shutter Gallery and have run an art workshop with children at the Redmond Community Centre to design and paint a mural in their centre.

I have lived in South Tottenham for over eight years so am familiar with Edmonton and have seen the positive impact that artwork on the shop shutters and murals has had where I live.
